2010 Health and Group Benefits Changes
Prescription Drug Plan:

As a retiree with access to the Prescription Drug Plan we are sending you information about Tyco’s coverage under this plan. Prescription drug coverage is offered through CVS Caremark. While you’re not required to shop at CVS Caremark participating pharmacies, it pays to do so.

If you don’t use a network pharmacy, you’ll pay a $50 annual deductible for each covered person and the plan pays 50% of the discounted network cost.
Below are the changes that will go into effect January 1, 2010:

Drug Type

You Pay …

Generic Drugs:

Have the same chemical make-up as brand-name drugs, but they’re usually much less expensive. $8 for a 30-day supply of generic drugs at a participating network pharmacy or $16 for up to a 90-day supply through the mail-order program.

Preferred Brand-Name Drugs:

Selected for the preferred brand-name drug list based on effectiveness, limited side effects and price.

$30 for a 30-day supply at participating network pharmacies or $60 for up to a 90-day supply through the mail-order program.

Non-Preferred Brand-Name Drugs:

Not on the preferred brand-name drug list because generally their cost is higher and they are no more effective than available preferred brand-name drugs.

50% coinsurance to you with a maximum out-of-pocket cost of $100 per retail prescription. Your maximum out-of-pocket expense through mail-order is limited to $200 per prescription.

ON THE COVER

Ok, does anyone remember these? I found some I had from way back when. This one is 53 years old, can you believe it! I was 12 when it was written.

The photograph is of the Capitol building in Richmond, Va. Patterned after the Maison Caree' at Nimes, France, and designed by Thomas Jefferson.

Construction of the main portion was begun in 1785, and finished in abour 1792. It was here that the Confederate House of Representatives met between 1861 and 1865. Here too, Robert E. Lee on April 23, 1861, accepted command of Virginia's military forces.

A real credit to their Architects are the two wings which flawlessly match the original structure although they were not erected until 1905 to give legislators much needed space.

Modern Protection against fire and other hazards recently was provided throughout by ADT AEROTM Automatic Fire Alarm, Sprinkler Supervisory and Waterflow Alarm and Watchman's Security signaling Services.

"A Virginian by birth and principle"

HOW DID JEFFERSON KNOW THESE THINGS?????? Especially read the last quote from 1802. Perhaps our collective leadership including our president needs to take heed of these observations.

"It has been said the greatest volume of sheer brainpower in one place occurred when Jefferson dined alone..." John Kennedy

Quotations by Thomas Jefferson:

When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as Europe. Thomas Jefferson

The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not. Thomas Jefferson

It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world. Thomas Jefferson

I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them. Thomas Jefferson

My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government Thomas Jefferson

No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms. Thomas Jefferson

The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government. Thomas Jefferson

The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. Thomas Jefferson

To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.Thomas Jefferson

Thomas Jefferson said in 1802: I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered..' Commentary:

This letter is circulating on the Web and I rarely if ever forward them because I am uncertain of their content but I must say that I find no fault in this letter. This individual is a teacher from Missouri and I have heard and seen thanks to our ever watchful media, all of those things that are written here.

A super resource to check internet mail that circulates around the web is http://www.snopes.com/. It usually classifies the content as "TRUE" "FALSE" or "Questionable." Their research is solid and extensive.

THE LETTER:

The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington , DC 20500

Mr. Obama:

You are responsible to the citizens of the United States .You are not responsible to the peoples of any other country on earth. I personally resent that you go around the world apologizing for the United States telling Europeans that we are arrogant and do not care about their status in the world.

Sir, what do you think the First World War and the Second World War were all about if not the consideration of the peoples of Europe ? Are you brain dead? What do you think the Marshall Plan was all about?Do you not understand or know the history of the 20th century?

Where do you get off telling a Muslim country that the United States does not consider itself a Christian country? Have you not read the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution of the United States ? This country was founded on Judeo-Christian ethics and the principles governing this country, at least until you came along, come directly from this heritage. Do you not understand this? Your bowing to the king of Saudi Arabia is an affront to all Americans. Our President does not bow down to anyone, let alone the king of Saudi Arabia .

You don't show Great Britain , our best and one of our oldest allies, the respect they deserve yet you bow down to the king of Saudi Arabia . How dare you, sir! How dare you! You can't find the time to visit the graves of our greatest generation because you don't want to offend the Germans but make time to visit a mosque in Turkey.

You offended our dead and every veteran when you give the Germans more respect than the people who saved the German people from themselves. What's the matter with you? I am convinced that you and the members of your administration have the historical and intellectual depth of a mud puddle and should be ashamed of yourselves, all of you. You are so self-righteously offended by the big bankers and the American automobile manufacturers yet do nothing about the real thieves in this situation, Mr. Dodd, Mr. Frank, Franklin Raines, Jamie Gorelic, the Fannie Mae bonuses, and the Freddie Mac bonuses.

What do you intend to do about them? Anything? I seriously doubt it.What about the U.S. House members passing out $9.1 million in bonuses to their staff members -- on top of the $2.5 million in automatic pay raises that lawmakers gave themselves? I understand the average House aide got a 17% bonus. I took a 5% cut in my pay to save jobs with my employer. You haven't said anything about that. Who authorized that? I surely didn't! Executives at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will be receiving $210 million in bonuses over an eighteen-month period, that's $45 million more than the AIG bonuses. In fact, Fannie and Freddie executives have already been awarded $51 million -- not a bad take.

Who authorized that and why haven't you expressed your outrage at this group who are largely responsible for the economic mess we have right now. I resent that you take me and my fellow citizens as brain-dead and not caring about what you idiots do. We are watching what you are doing and we are getting increasingly fed up with all of you. I also want you to know that I personally find just about everything you do and say to be offensive to every one of my sensibilities. I promise you that I will work tirelessly to see that you do not get a chance to spend two terms destroying my beautiful country.

The Health Care plan WE may be headed toward

I have for some time been concerned as to how our current administration is leaning with regard to our health care system, especially with regard to our medicare for those 65 and older. I haven't ventured into this area because all the information I had was what our courts would call "hearsay". My family has had acquaintances and extended family associated with this thing called National Health but that is all.

Well, today in our local newspaper an article in our editorial section was directed to just that and this individual is an American that lives in the United Kingdom. She responds to a previous article regarding England's National Health Service! Below is her article in her own words.

As an American living in the United Kingdom I read with interest the recent letter regarding Britain's National Health Service (NHS). Although I agree with the writer with regard to the quality of doctors and nurses in the U. K. I was surprised to learn how many people in the U. K. also carry pricey private health insurance . I wonder if the writer is even aware that private hospitals and private insurance are even available, let alone common and on the rise.

My dear friend, a geriatric specialist, also informed me that, in the U. K. system once one reaches the "elderly" age of 65, one is no longer considered "eligible" for such things as heart, kidney, or lung transplants. Such patients are referred to as "end of life care". Incidentally my U. K. physician friend carries private health insurance for himself and his wife.

What is actually happening in the U. K. is "classist". Only the wealthy can can afford private health insurance, and it is on the rise-making the NHS the only option for the masses. It would be naive to think this same private insurance would not evolve here if national health were to become the universal U. S. system.

Although not perfect, our medical system is the envy of the world. Let us work at tweaking it instead of replacing it. Sharon Strong Peple. RTD

Case in point:

A woman in Great Britian who was the mother of a family members friend saw a doctor in the U. K. (she was 77 years old), because of some issues she was having. As it turned out the physician determined what he suspected was the source of the problem and advised her she needed to see a Cardiologist to determine exactly what was going on. In order to see a cardiologist (ANY Cardiologist) she was required to be placed on a waiting list.

Over two years passed with no appointment and she then made plans to visit her son in America before something happened. She purchased her tickets and was within days of flying out when she was finally called and said they could see her. Needless to say the trip was cancelled so she could keep the appointment. As I recall her heart condition was treatable with medication but had it not been the case she very well may not have survived the "wait".

God saw you were getting tired
And a cure was not to be.
So He put His arms around you
And whispered “Come to Me.”

And saw you pass away,
Although we loved you dearly.
We could not make you stay.

A golden heart stopped beating.
Hard working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us.
He only takes the best.

A little humor for those getting more mature

The Golden Years!
>
>LAUGH A LITTLE EVERY DAY....

>A row of bottles on my shelf
>Caused me to analyze myself.

>One yellow pill I have to pop
>Goes to my heart so it won't stop.

>A little white one that I take
>Goes to my hands so they won't shake.

>The blue ones that I use a lot
>Tell me I'm happy when I'm not.

>The purple pill goes to my brain
>And tells me that I have no pain.

>The capsules tell me not to wheeze
>Or cough or choke or even sneeze.

>The red ones, smallest of them all
>Go to my blood so I won't fall.

>The orange ones, very big and bright
>Prevent my leg cramps in the night.

>Such an array of brilliant pills
>Helping to cure all kinds of ills.

>But what I'd really like to know
>Is what tells each one where to go!
>
Remember! There's always a lot to be thankful.

I am sitting here now thinking, how nice it is
That wrinkles don't hurt.

The passing of Robbie Murray

The email it was short
About two sentences long
It is with great sadness
that I send this message to you all
Robbie has but days to live
Nielsens words turned on a switch
My mind saw pictures clear of
The dynamo with all his gear
Fire, fire and more fire clear
The accent of the ancient Scots
like rolling through a moor and down the glen
climbing to the rugged highlands and
languishing in a border shire and
spreading like a red wildfire
Aye lad Ochone agus Ochone O Mac

THE NEW DISTRIBUTION RULE FOR 2009

Wednesday, February 4, 2009

Minimum IRA Distributions (MRD)

Breaking news! Most seniors should know by now that a congressional amendment recently went into place allowing those over the age of 70 1/2 to waive taking those distributions (RMD) to be taxed from their IRA's. Caution though, it is only good for 2009. After that the amendment is set to expire unless its renewed for another year.

Waiver of 2009 Required Minimum Distributions

On Tuesday, December 23, 2008, President Bush signed into law H.R. 7327, the Worker, Retiree, and Employer Recovery Act of 2008, which waives the 2009 required minimum distribution (RMD) from individual retirement accounts (IRAs) and plans, such as:

Traditional IRAs

Simplified Employee Pension (SEP) IRAs

Savings Incentive Match Plan for Employees (SIMPLE) IRAs

Inherited IRAs, including inherited Roth IRAs

Defined Contribution Plans [such as 401(k), Profit Sharing, and Money Purchase plans]
403(b)(7) custodial accounts.

This means that if you are turning age 70½ in 2009, you are not required to begin taking the RMD from your retirement account in 2009. If you are over age 70½, you are not required to continue to take your RMD for 2009.

You may still choose to take a distribution, although it is not required. As a reminder, if you turned age 70½ during 2008, then you must continue to meet your RMD for 2008.

You have until April 1, 2009, to complete your RMD requirement. If you are over age 70½, you are also required to continue your RMD for 2008
